Chabrias
Chabrias was an Athenian general of the 4th century BCE and a skilled commander of mercenaries and fleets. In 376 BCE his victory over the Spartan fleet off Naxos restored Athenian sea power and helped build the Second Athenian League. He also served the pharaohs of Egypt and was killed in 357 BCE when his ship was cut off in an attack on the harbour of Chios at the start of the Social War.
