Cherethites and Pelethites
The Cherethites and Pelethites were the royal bodyguard of King David according to the Hebrew Bible, commanded by Benaiah son of Jehoiada. Their names are usually taken to mean Cretans and Philistines, suggesting a force of foreign mercenaries of Aegean origin loyal to the king personally; they supported Solomon's succession against Adonijah.
