Cherrapunji
Cherrapunji, also called Sohra, is a town on the southern edge of the Khasi Hills in Meghalaya, north-east India, overlooking the plains of Bangladesh. Monsoon winds rising against the hills give it one of the highest rainfalls on Earth, and it holds world records for rainfall in a year and in a month. It was the seat of a Khasi chiefdom, an early British station and from 1841 the base of Welsh missionaries.
