Chichimeca

Also known as Chichimecs

Chichimeca was a Nahuatl name for the nomadic and semi-nomadic peoples of northern Mexico, and also for migrants from the north who settled in central Mexico. Several Nahua city-states, including Tenochtitlan and Texcoco, claimed Chichimec ancestry. In the 16th century the Chichimeca resisted Spanish expansion in the long Chichimeca War of about 1550-1590.
