Nahuatl
Nahuatl is a Uto-Aztecan language spoken by the Mexica and other peoples of central Mexico. The Aztec Empire spread its use across Mesoamerica, and it carried a rich tradition of poetry and learning. After the Spanish conquest it became the most important indigenous lingua franca of the colonial period, used by missionaries for evangelisation.
