Clodoald

c. 522–c. 560 · 6th century · Also known as Saint Cloud

Clodoald, known as Saint Cloud, was a son of the Frankish king Chlodomer of Orléans. When his uncles Childebert I and Chlothar I murdered his brothers in 524 to seize their inheritance, he escaped, later renounced his claim and became a monk. He founded a monastery at Novigentum near Paris, where he was buried, and the town of Saint-Cloud is named after him.
