Conon

d. c. 389 BCE · 4th century BCE · Also known as Conon of Athens

Conon was an Athenian admiral of the late 5th and early 4th centuries BCE. He escaped the Athenian defeat at Aegospotami in 405 BCE and took refuge in Cyprus, and later commanded a fleet for the Persian king. In 394 BCE he and the satrap Pharnabazus destroyed the Spartan fleet off Knidos, ending Spartan naval supremacy, and he then helped rebuild the Long Walls of Athens.
