Corrective Move
The Corrective Move was the seizure of power on 22 June 1969 by the left wing of South Yemen's ruling National Liberation Front, which removed President Qahtan al-Shaabi. Power passed to a collective leadership including Salim Rubaya Ali and Abdul Fattah Ismail, which renamed the country the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen in 1970 and aligned it with the Soviet Union as the Arab world's only Marxist state.
