Salim Rubaya Ali

1935–1978 · 20th century · Also known as Salem Rubaya Ali, Salmin

Salim Rubaya Ali was a Yemeni revolutionary who headed South Yemen's Presidential Council from 1969 to 1978 after the Corrective Move. A leader of the National Liberation Front, he leaned towards Maoist and more independent policies and sought better relations with Saudi Arabia, clashing with the pro-Soviet Abdul Fattah Ismail. In June 1978 he was overthrown and executed after a power struggle linked to the killing of North Yemen's president.
