Creevelea Friary

1508 · 16th century

Creevelea Friary is a ruined Franciscan friary near Dromahair in County Leitrim, Ireland, founded in 1508 by Margaret O'Brien and her husband Eoghan O'Rourke, lord of West Breifne. It was one of the last Franciscan houses founded in Ireland before the Reformation. The friars were driven out and the buildings damaged in the later 16th century, but the church and cloister survive in ruins.
