Nine Years' War (Ireland)
The Nine Years' War was a rebellion of Gaelic Irish lords against English rule, fought from 1593 to 1603. Led by Hugh O'Neill, Earl of Tyrone, and Red Hugh O'Donnell, with Maguire of Fermanagh and other Ulster lords, it won victories such as the Yellow Ford in 1598. A Spanish force landed at Kinsale in 1601, but defeat there led to O'Neill's surrender in 1603, the Flight of the Earls in 1607 and the Plantation of Ulster.
