Dou Xian

d. 92 · 1st century

Dou Xian was a Chinese general of the Eastern Han dynasty and brother of the regent Empress Dowager Dou. In 89 he led a Han army with Southern Xiongnu allies that routed the Northern Xiongnu, and the historian Ban Gu composed a victory inscription carved at Mount Yanran in Mongolia, rediscovered in 2017. His family's dominance at court ended in 92, when Emperor He removed him and forced him to kill himself.
