Douce I, Countess of Provence

c. 1090–1127 · 12th century · Also known as Douce of Provence

Douce I was Countess of Provence and heiress of its first comital dynasty. Her marriage to Ramon Berenguer III of Barcelona in 1112 brought Provence to the counts of Barcelona, whose junior line ruled it until 1245. Her rights were contested by the counts of Toulouse, leading to a partition of Provence between the two houses in 1125.
