Dukla Pass
The Dukla Pass is a low pass in the Carpathian Mountains on the border between Poland and Slovakia. In September to November 1944 Soviet and Czechoslovak forces fought a costly battle there in an attempt to reach the Slovak National Uprising. The 1st Czechoslovak Army Corps lost thousands of men, and the battle is commemorated by a memorial on the pass.
