Düsseldorf
Düsseldorf is the capital of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, on the Rhine. Count Adolf V of Berg granted it town rights in 1288 after the Battle of Worringen, and it became the residence of the counts and dukes of Berg and later of Elector Johann Wilhelm of the Palatinate, who made it a baroque court city. It is now a major centre of commerce, fashion and art.
