Eike von Repgow

c. 1180–after 1233 · 13th century

Eike von Repgow was a Saxon knight and legal expert who compiled the Sachsenspiegel, the most important German law book of the Middle Ages, between about 1220 and 1235. He wrote it first in Latin and then in Middle Low German, recording the customary land law and feudal law of Saxony. He is sometimes credited with the Saxon World Chronicle, one of the first histories in German prose.
