Ekofisk

1969 · 20th century · Also known as Ekofisk oil field

Ekofisk is an oil field in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea, discovered by Phillips Petroleum in 1969 and in production from 1971. The first major petroleum find on the Norwegian continental shelf, it opened the way to an oil and gas industry that transformed Norway into one of the world's richest countries and funds its sovereign wealth fund.
