Estella-Lizarra

Also known as Estella

Estella-Lizarra is a town in Navarre, northern Spain, on the Ega river and the pilgrim route to Santiago de Compostela, founded by King Sancho Ramírez in 1090. Rich in Romanesque churches, it was a stronghold of Carlism. During the Third Carlist War it served as the capital of the Carlist state until its fall in February 1876.
