c. 1535 – after 1616 · 16th century · Also known as Guaman Poma

Felipe Guaman Poma de Ayala was an Andean nobleman of Peru who wrote the Nueva corónica y buen gobierno, a chronicle of about 1,200 pages addressed to the king of Spain around 1615. Illustrated with nearly 400 drawings, it describes Andean history and life and denounces the abuses of colonial rule. The manuscript, rediscovered in Copenhagen in 1908, is a key source on the Incas.
