Frederick III of Denmark
Frederick III was king of Denmark and Norway from 1648 to 1670. His war with Sweden cost Denmark Scania and its other provinces east of the Sound in 1658, but he won fame defending Copenhagen during the Swedish siege. In 1660 he used the crisis to make the monarchy hereditary and absolute, set down in the King's Law of 1665.
