Øresund
The Øresund, or the Sound, is the strait between the Danish island of Zealand and Scania in southern Sweden, the main passage between the Baltic Sea and the North Sea. At its narrowest, between Helsingør and Helsingborg, it is about four kilometres wide. Denmark levied the Sound Dues on passing ships from 1429 until 1857, a major source of royal revenue.
