Gatha Saptashati
The Gatha Saptashati, 'Seven Hundred Verses', is an anthology of short poems in Maharashtri Prakrit attributed to the Satavahana king Hala. Its two-line verses, many spoken by women, deal with love, separation and village life. Compiled perhaps in the early centuries CE and expanded later, it shaped later Indian poetics and was much quoted by Sanskrit critics.
