18th century · 18th century · Also known as God Save the Queen

God Save the King, or God Save the Queen when the monarch is female, is the national anthem of the United Kingdom, first published in the 1740s. It served as the national anthem of Australia and other dominions until they adopted their own; in Australia it was replaced by Advance Australia Fair in 1984 and retained as the royal anthem.
