God's Wife of Amun
God's Wife of Amun was the title of the highest-ranking priestess of the god Amun at Thebes. From the Third Intermediate Period it was held by unmarried royal daughters, each adopting her successor, and the office controlled great temple wealth and political influence in Upper Egypt. Kings secured Thebes by having their daughters adopted, as Psamtik I did with Nitocris in 656 BCE.
