Gondophares

r. c. 19–46 CE · 1st century · Also known as Gondophares I

Gondophares was the founder of the Indo-Parthian Kingdom, ruling in the early 1st century CE over Sistan, Arachosia, Gandhara and Taxila, which he took from the Indo-Scythians. The Takht-i-Bahi inscription is dated to his 26th regnal year. Christian tradition, through the Acts of Thomas, names him as the king who received the Apostle Thomas in India.
