Gothic War (376–382)
The Gothic War of 376–382 was fought between the Roman Empire and Gothic groups, chiefly the Tervingi and Greuthungi, who had crossed the Danube fleeing the Huns. Mistreatment by Roman officials provoked a revolt, and in 378 the Goths destroyed the eastern Roman army and killed Emperor Valens at Adrianople. Theodosius I ended the war with a treaty in 382 that settled the Goths in Thrace as allies under their own leaders.
