Grianan of Aileach

Also known as Grianán of Aileach

The Grianan of Aileach is a circular stone fort on a hilltop in County Donegal, overlooking Lough Swilly and Lough Foyle. Traditionally the royal seat of the northern Uí Néill kings of Ailech, it was reportedly destroyed by Muirchertach Ua Briain in 1101. The surviving stone ringfort was heavily reconstructed in the 1870s.
