Hakura
The hakura was a land-grant system of the Darfur Sultanate, introduced under its founder Sulayman Solong, in which the sultan granted territorial rights in exchange for loyalty, service, revenue and military levies. It bound diverse communities to the throne and structured land tenure and social hierarchy. Though dismantled under colonial rule, it left lasting imprints on land tenure and ethnic identity in Darfur.
