Havelock mine

1939–2001 · 20th century · Also known as Bulembu mine

The Havelock mine was an asbestos mine at Bulembu in north-western Eswatini, worked from 1939 to 2001. For decades it was one of the largest asbestos mines in the world and a major source of Swaziland's export earnings, linked to Barberton in South Africa by a long aerial cableway. Its closure left the company town of Bulembu largely abandoned.
