Heidelberg Catechism

1563 · 16th century

The Heidelberg Catechism is a Reformed Protestant statement of faith in question-and-answer form, published in 1563 at the order of Elector Frederick III of the Palatinate. Written chiefly by Zacharias Ursinus with Caspar Olevian, it made the Palatinate the leading Calvinist state of the Holy Roman Empire. It became one of the most widely used confessions of Reformed churches in Europe and beyond.
