Hellenization
Hellenisation refers to the spread of Greek language, culture, institutions and urban life among non-Greek peoples, especially after the conquests of Alexander the Great. It was promoted through new cities, gymnasia and Greek administration. It was a defining feature of the Macedonian Empire's legacy and of the Seleucid Empire, where it both integrated elites and provoked resistance.
