Hoàn Kiếm Lake

Also known as Hoan Kiem Lake, Lake of the Returned Sword

Hoàn Kiếm Lake, the 'Lake of the Returned Sword', is a lake in the centre of Hanoi, Vietnam. According to legend, after defeating the Ming, Lê Lợi returned his magic sword to a golden turtle that rose from the lake. On its small islands stand the Turtle Tower and the Temple of the Jade Mountain, and the lake is a symbol of the city.
