Homeridae
The Homeridae, "sons of Homer", were a guild or clan of rhapsodes on the Greek island of Chios who claimed descent from Homer and recited his poems. Mentioned by Pindar, Plato and later writers, they supported Chios's claim to be Homer's birthplace, and the Homeric Hymn to Apollo speaks of a blind poet who lived on rocky Chios. The name was later used more widely for performers and scholars of Homer.
