House of Eppenstein

1011–1122 · 11th century · Also known as Eppenstein dynasty

The Eppensteiners were a noble family from Styria who held the Duchy of Carinthia, together with the March of Verona, for long periods between 1011 and 1122. Adalbero of Eppenstein became duke in 1011 but was deposed by Emperor Conrad II in 1035; his descendants regained the duchy in 1077. The line died out with Duke Henry III in 1122, and Carinthia passed to the Sponheimers.
