Hull–Alfaro Treaty
The Hull–Alfaro Treaty was signed in 1936 by US Secretary of State Cordell Hull and the Panamanian envoy Ricardo J. Alfaro, and ratified by the United States in 1939. It revised the Hay–Bunau-Varilla Treaty by ending the American guarantee of Panama's independence and the right to intervene in its affairs, and it raised the annual payment for the canal. It ended Panama's status as an American protectorate.
