Ilyas Shahi dynasty

1342–1414; 1435–1487 · 14th century

The Ilyas Shahi dynasty was the first royal house of the united Bengal Sultanate. Its founder, Shamsuddin Ilyas Shah, brought all of Bengal under one ruler by 1352 and resisted an invasion by the Delhi Sultanate. The family ruled from Pandua and later Gaur, lost the throne to Raja Ganesha around 1414, was restored in 1435 and was overthrown by Abyssinian palace guards in 1487.
