Ilyas Bey of Menteshe

d. 1421 · 15th century

Ilyas Bey was ruler of the Turkish beylik of Menteshe in south-western Anatolia, restored to his lands by Timur after the Battle of Ankara in 1402. In 1404 he built the İlyas Bey Mosque at Balat beside the ruins of Miletus. He made trade treaties with Venice, but recognised Ottoman overlordship, and Menteshe was annexed soon after his death.
