Imhotep

27th century BCE · 27th century BCE

Imhotep was a high official of the Egyptian king Djoser of the Third Dynasty in the 27th century BCE and, by tradition, the architect of the Step Pyramid at Saqqara. His name and titles appear on the base of a statue of Djoser. Centuries later he was revered as a sage and healer and deified, and the Greeks identified him with Asclepius.
