Ismail al-Zafir, of the Berber family of the Banu Dhi al-Nun, was the first ruler of the dynasty in the taifa of Toledo. Formerly lords of Uclés and Huete, the family was invited by Toledo's notables after the city threw off caliphal rule, and Ismail established the dynasty there in the 1030s. His son al-Mamun made Toledo one of the strongest taifas of al-Andalus.
