Issyk-Kul
Issyk-Kul is a large mountain lake without an outlet in north-eastern Kyrgyzstan, lying in the Tian Shan at about 1,600 metres above sea level. Its basin, sheltered pastureland on the routes between the Tarim Basin and the steppe, was home in turn to the Saka, the Wusun, the Western Turks and the Karakhanids. It is one of the largest mountain lakes in the world.
