Pamir Mountains
The Pamir Mountains are a high mountain system of Central Asia, lying mainly in Tajikistan and reaching into Afghanistan, China and Kyrgyzstan, with peaks above 7,000 metres. Known as the 'Roof of the World', they were crossed by branches of the Silk Road linking the Tarim Basin with Bactria and India. Ancient Saka groups lived in and around them.
