Izumo Province
Izumo Province was an old province of Japan on the Sea of Japan coast, in the east of modern Shimane Prefecture. It is the setting of many myths in the Kojiki and home to the Izumo Grand Shrine, one of Japan's oldest Shinto sanctuaries. In the Sengoku period it was the base of the Amago clan, and under the Tokugawa it formed the Matsue domain.
