Jaffa
Jaffa is an ancient port on the Mediterranean coast of Israel, now part of Tel Aviv–Yafo. Long the main sea gateway to Jerusalem, it was taken by the crusaders in 1099 and became the centre of the County of Jaffa and Ascalon. Richard I won a battle there in 1192, and the Mamluk sultan Baybars captured it in 1268. Tel Aviv was founded on its outskirts in 1909.
