Jager Afrikaner

c. 1769–1823 · 19th century

Jager Afrikaner was a leader of the Oorlam Afrikaners, a Khoekhoe group of the Cape frontier who had adopted horses, guns and Cape Dutch. Outlawed after killing a farmer, he led raids from beyond the Orange River before converting to Christianity under the London Missionary Society around 1815. His son Jonker Afrikaner moved north into central Namibia, where the group founded Windhoek.
