Person
Jimmy Carter
Jimmy Carter was the 39th president of the United States, serving from 1977 to 1981. A Democrat from Georgia, he made human rights central to foreign policy, signed the Torrijos–Carter Treaties with Panama in 1977 and brokered the Camp David Accords between Egypt and Israel in 1978, but his presidency was weakened by inflation and the Iran hostage crisis. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his later humanitarian work.
