Jindo Island
Jindo is an island off the south-western tip of the Korean peninsula, part of South Jeolla Province. In 1270–1271 it was the base of the Sambyeolcho rebels, who built the Yongjang fortress there and set up a rival Goryeo court until a Goryeo and Mongol force took it. The island is known for the Jindo dog and for a seasonal parting of the sea that links it to a nearby islet.
