Jukun people

The Jukun are a people of the middle Benue valley in north-eastern Nigeria, living mainly in Taraba and neighbouring states. They are identified with the power called Kwararafa in Hausa and Bornu sources, which raided Kano and other Hausa cities in the 17th century. Their sacred king, the Aku Uka, whose wellbeing was bound to the harvest, still reigns at Wukari.
