Kabylia
Kabylia is a mountainous region of northern Algeria east of Algiers, home to the Kabyle Berbers. It is divided into Greater Kabylia around the Djurdjura range and Lesser Kabylia to the east, around Béjaïa. Its villages long kept their own assemblies and customary law. France conquered it only in 1857, and it was a centre of the Mokrani revolt of 1871 and of the war of independence.
