Kalamata
Kalamata is a port city in the southern Peloponnese, Greece, and the capital of Messenia. After the Fourth Crusade it became a lordship of the Villehardouin family, whose castle still overlooks the town. In March 1821 it was among the first towns taken by Greek insurgents in the War of Independence, and it is known today for its olives.
