Karlstad Convention
The Karlstad Convention was the set of agreements negotiated at Karlstad, Sweden, in September 1905 that settled the peaceful dissolution of the union between Sweden and Norway. After Norway's Storting declared the union ended and a referendum endorsed it, the two countries agreed on a demilitarised zone along the border, the rights of Sami herders and arbitration of disputes, averting a threatened war.
